REVIEW AND DISCUSS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Mr. Taylor reviewed and discussed in-depth the water management strategies for the suggested major providers for municipal WUG’s without providers, municipal county-other WUG’s without regional providers.  2030 and 2050 community water shortages and 2030 and 2050 county-other water shortages were discussed where the shortages could be addressed by extending or increasing existing contracts.  WUG’s not currently served by a Regional Water Provider, municipal county-other WUG’s with shortages and non-municipal water user groups with shortages were also addressed.  The Water Planning Group recommended for Waller County to be served by the City of Houston and/or the Brazos River Authority instead of the San Jacinto River Authority and for Bellaire to add the City of Houston as a Regional Provider.

GENERAL DISCUSSION

Mr. Adams stated that the North Harris County Regional Water Authority had made application to the Texas Water Development Board for a grant of $270,000 to look at other sources of supply and a regional reclaimed water plan.  Mr. Pederson, Executive Director of the Texas Water Development Board, suggested that the Region H Group could solicit SB 1 regional water planning contingency funds to conduct the studies as additional studies.  Mr. Adams also stated that the City of Alvin, as the lead agency for the proposed Mid-Brazoria County Regional Water Planning Group, had also applied to the Texas Water Development Board for a grant to investigate and assess long-term water supply needs for portions of Brazoria County.

Mr. Adams stated that no action could be taken on this item because it was not on the agenda.  He further stated that it would be placed on the agenda for the June 21, 2000 meeting.

Mr. Adams appointed an ad hoc committee to look at the proposed grant requests and make a recommendation at the June 21st meeting.  The following members were appointed to the committee:  Gary Oradat, Michael Sullivan, Jack Harris, Ernie Rebuck, Jim Adams, Jack Searcy and David Jenkins.

Mr. Adams stated that Robert Eckels wishes to be replaced by Gary Stobb, who is working on the Harris County Water Supply Project.

 TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD

Mr. Rebuck stated that there would be a conference call of regional planning group chairmen on Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. for an update on the status of the regional plans.
